Specialist Provision
Telford & Wrekin Council is continuing to develop partnerships between special schools and a number of primary and secondary mainstream schools to broaden the range of provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
A key focus has been on building the resilience and capacity of mainstream schools to meet increasing complexity of need and schools have been responding to this.
We have developed specialist provision hubs in mainstream schools that cater for children with communication and interaction needs, including those with Autism and associated cognition and learning difficulties. These Hubs have proved to be successful with schools, parent carers and young people.
This development provides an inclusive option which bridges the gap between special and mainstream schools, offering greater choice for parent carers and means children with more complex SEND are educated alongside their mainstream peers.

Area of need/ criteria for placement: The pupil’s needs will be complex and significant in at least two areas as described in the EHCP. The primary area need will be cognition and learning, with many pupils having needs within communication and interaction and sensory or physical. A small number of pupils may have associated social, emotional and mental health difficulties, however this cannot be their primary area of need.
